Technology
Computer education at St. Rose focuses on the ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) National Educational Technology Standards.  There are multimedia computers located in each classroom as well as the computer laboratory. All computers have safe access to the Internet.
 
Keyboarding, spreadsheet, database, PowerPoint presentation, publishing, graphic organizers and multimedia/Internet research is taught by the computer skills instructor.
 
Students in Pre-K4 through Grade 5 receive computer instruction once per week.  Students in Grades 6 through 8 receive computer instruction three times weekly. The computer skills instructor provides an interdisciplinary approach on all levels.
 
Mathematics
The focus of the mathematics program is the application of mathematical concepts to solve problems along with the development of computational and reasoning skills.  The program reflects the recommendations of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Students develop the language of mathematics and develop the skills to communicate through charts, graphs and pictures. Students who are prepared will take Pre-Algebra in Grade 7 and Algebra in Grade 8. Throughout the program skills are reinforced through manipulatives, games, projects and computer software both in the lab and classrooms.
 
Science
The aim of the science program is to encourage a child’s sense of wonder for the world about himself/herself. The major areas of study are life science, physical science, earth science, environmental science and conservation. The focus is on the scientific method, scientific inquiry, experimentation and hands-on activities.  Cooperative learning is encouraged through group projects.
 
In Grades 7 and 8 classes are divided to create small groups for discussion and experimentation.  Texts are supported through videos, charts, graphs, computer software as well as newspapers and periodicals.  This enables students to understand through varied activities, scientific information that is necessary for them to become intelligent, responsible citizens.
