Celebrating Two SRLA Scholars
SRLA 8th Graders Dennis Digiacomo and Conor Naughton both received the Gerald V. Sheehan, '48 Academic Scholarship to St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City, the only Jesuit high school in New Jersey.

This scholarship covers the entire cost of tuition during each of the student’s four years at the school and includes a summer enrichment program, cultural offerings, retreats, and leadership opportunities. Sheehan Scholarships are awarded to students at the top of the applicant pool, based on superior grades, results of the HSPT exam, involvement in school and/or community, and an interview. Twenty-five full merit four-year scholarships were awarded and we had two recipients from our 8th grade class at SRLA! Way to go Dennis and Conor!

Be an Upstander
Cyber-bullying is an ever-present danger when the internet, social media, and gaming are part of our children’s everyday lives. Wednesday night, a group of middle school parents and students tackled the issue as they viewed the film The Upstanders, which focuses on cyber-bullying and how it affects the bullied, their families, and the community. It was followed by an eye-opening presentation by Millburn Police Detective Socrates Barbosa, who also answered questions from the students and parents.

Awareness is the key to helping keep our children safe. Those present were grateful for the opportunity to learn more about what they can do to stop cyber-bullying.

“You don’t want the regret of not doing something. Be an upstander. Not a bystander. Even an inch means something. “
