52 Short Hills Avenue, Short Hills, NJ 07078 | (973) 379-3973 | Summer Reading and Supplies | 2021-2022 Registration Packet

Dear Parents,

Thanksgiving will be here soon, and I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to everyone in this wonderful community for being so attentive, resilient and caring during a year of unprecedented levels of stress and disruption. I could not be prouder of how resilient the SRLA community is and continues to be this year!

During the holidays, there’s nothing most of us want more than good food and the comfort of friends and family. However, I ask that you consider both your safety and that of your family and the school community as you make plans for the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. This year, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, our choices and decisions can threaten the health and well-being of our friends and family. We must plan and choose wisely.

As disappointing as it may be, if you can avoid traveling or in-person gatherings for Thanksgiving, please do so. COVID-19 cases continue to rise in New Jersey and across the nation. New Jersey’s recent test data reflects high rates of community transmission and regional hospitalizations are also increasing. This mirrors the experience of most of the nation. The virus often spreads best when people gather with others from outside their household, and the more people, the greater the risk of viral transmission.

Navigating family and social demands during the holidays is stressful at the best of times, and even more so when contending with the threat of a deadly pandemic, isolation, and potential differences with loved ones regarding COVID-19 safety.

Thank you again for all you are doing to protect one another.

Remember:

  • Avoid travel and in-person gatherings this Thanksgiving if possible.
  • If you must attend an in-person gathering:
  • Physically distance, wear a mask, and take all possible safety precautions for both travel and the event itself.
  • Isolate before you go, and upon your return.
  • Consider COVID-19 testing before you go.
  • Prepare to quarantine and consider another COVID-19 test after your return home.
  • Complete the following COVID-19 Screening Questionnaire and return by 11/30/2020 either electronically or by hand upon your return to school.

Please see the attached file for the Covid-19 Screening Questionnaire.

Sincerely,
Principal Underwood

Dear Parents,

I hope this note finds you in good health and spirits. My prayers are for everyone to continue to stay well and exercise care in our daily lives. I am so grateful to everyone for checking in on our fellow families as that is what we are all about at SRLA.

After careful and thoughtful consideration, we will not hold our annual Christmas Concert in December but will instead hold a concert later in the school year.

Hopefully we will see the situation improve in the near future and our concert will be a true celebration of spirit!!!

May God Bless you and keep you safe.

With warm regards,

Principal Underwood

Hello SRLA Families!

Thank you all for coming out and supporting the 5th Annual Food Truck Festival Friday night! It was the best one yet!! A fun night with delicious food, lots of laughs with new and old friends, and a rousing corn hole competition! Everyone loved the live music by the fabulous Mike & Mike duo, and we were thankful for all the ways we responsibly celebrated so we could safely host this favorite event. Your generosity, support, and enthusiasm helped make this first fundraiser a success!

SRLA Christmas Gift Giving Program

Dear SRLA Families and Faculty,

A wonderful tradition at St. Rose of Lima Academy has been our Christmas Gift Giving Program that we have run for many years! This year is more important than ever because there are so many additional families in need because of Covid. Through this program we make sure that there is at least one present under the tree for the children of St. Rose of Lima Church in Newark and the seniors and families of St. Joseph’s Social Service Center in Elizabeth. Please consider if you can help these children, families and seniors during the Christmas holidays. There are two ways to participate in the program this year:

(1) Buy gifts for children.

~ If you would like to buy a gift, check off the appropriate box on the signup genius and indicate how many gifts you would like to buy. You will be provided with the name, age, and gender of a recipient in mid-November. Please wrap the gifts and bring them to school by Monday, December 7th. Gifts can be dropped off between November 30th through December 7th (Please budget $35 per gift). Drop off details will be provided.

(2) Make a monetary donation via the Christmas Giving webpage.

~Because of Covid, St. Joseph’s in Elizabeth is not collecting physical gifts this year for their families and Seniors. We will be collecting money in $25 increments to purchase gift cards for the families and seniors at St. Josephs. Please check off the appropriate box on the signup genius AND pay online via the donation webpage as soon as possible! The Social Outreach Committee will buy the gift cards on your behalf. Click “ HERE “ to make donations.

*Shoppers – As of right now we do not think we will need shoppers this year. We will alert the school community if this changes.

Thank you in advance for all of your support for this worthy project! We encourage all families to involve their children in the shopping and wrapping of these gifts. This program is a wonderful way to teach children the importance of helping others!

Please sign up at the below Signup Genius link by Monday, November 9th
