2021 BOOK FAIR

The 2021 Book Fair at St. Rose of Lima Academy is just around the corner. The Book Fair keeps our children reading and raises funds for our school. We’re very excited to be able to host this event this year! To make our book fair a huge success, we need the help of all of our parents AND all of our children.

This year, the book fair will be held in the GYM, which is an exciting new announcement. We’re taking extra precautions to host a safe, socially distant, fair at our school. The children will visit the book fair early in the week with their classes, accompanied by their teacher, to prepare their WISH LISTS.

Contactless Checkout: This year, to help allow for an even easier way to gift your children with the books they want, you can use Scholastic’s eWALLET. With eWallet, a convenient digital payment account, your child can shop the fair cash-free. And now family, friends, and others can contribute to the eWallet! Set up your account today, so your children are ready! We’d love to encourage you to use this feature, but the Book Fair will of course also be accepting cash/check/credit card payment. Book Fair volunteers will fulfill these orders and books will be sent to your child’s classroom. Teachers will also have a chance to fill their own wish lists for their classrooms, and parents are invited to grant these

wishes as well!

eWALLET Set Up:

Book Fair Hours: The Book Fair will be open during the following hours for parents to visit the book fair with their children, if you’d like. Please remember to wear your mask, and enter through the main entrance for a temperature check. There will be an allotted amount of families in the gym at any given time. Once you’ve checked out, please allow for others to enter.

Wednesday 3/24   3-4 pm

Thursday     3/25 3-4 pm

***Special PARENT ONLY hours on Thursday 3/25 in the evening, 6:30-8:30 pm***

PARENT ONLY hours are a great opportunity for getting books as a surprise or for Easter baskets!!!

VOLUNTEER: A Sign-up Genius will go out in the next few days for volunteering slots. Please sign up to help. Please take note of the time slots your child’s class will be visiting the book fair if you’d like to specifically help with their class.

THANK YOU for your support.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

First, I would like to thank you for your support of Saint Rose of Lima Academy. Our recent celebration of Catholic Schools Week reminded us of the important place Catholic education has in the lives of our students, their families, our parishes, and our Church at large.

In the face of adversity, our Catholic schools remain resilient and continue to serve their primary mission – to form the next generation of servant leaders.

Now more than ever, our Catholic schools and their communities must come together to ensure that their values and faith formation can continue for years to come.

For this reason, I invite our families to prayerfully consider supporting the Annual Appeal of the Archdiocese of Newark. This annual archdiocesan campaign not only supports the charitable work, services and programs of the Archdiocese, but more importantly, will directly support the Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Newark.

The events of 2020 have challenged each of us in unique ways but have also allowed our Catholic community to demonstrate what we do best – to teach and witness God’s word and build God’s kingdom.

I hope that you will join me in making a gift to this year's Annual Appeal.

To make a gift, please visit www.rcan.org/sharing.

There you will also find information on the how this campaign supports our Archdiocesan mission.

May God bless you and your family.

Sincerely,
Principal Tina Underwood

Dear SRLA Families,

The third trimester begins on Monday, March 8th.

I would like to remind you of a few policies that we already have in place and a few new ones that I will be adding. Most every family should be familiar with Google Classroom and how to locate assignments. All work is expected to be submitted on time. Starting in the third trimester, teachers will no longer be accepting work well past the due dates. If a situation arises and your student will not be able to turn in an assignment on time, he or she will be given seven days after the due date to submit the work. Any late submissions will negatively affect your child’s grade. After the seven days, the work will not be accepted. While we do understand this is a difficult time for everyone, we must insist that the students be accountable for their work.

Also, a separate Honor Code will be sent out on Monday for all students to read, understand, sign and return. The Honor Code will be based on the following principles:

1.      A student’s word is his or her bond.

2.      A student has respect for academic honesty.

3.      A student’s conduct, either in-seat or virtual, is always that of a person of character.

Just a reminder, when we are remote or if your child is remote on any given day, he or she needs to attend class on time with the camera and microphone turned on. If your child is having an issue with the device, please send Danny an email and he will relay it to the teacher. Not having a working camera (homeroom) or microphone may affect your child’s participation grade.

Attendance is being monitored closely. If your child logs out of class early or is excessively late to class, the teachers have the right to mark him or her absent for the class. Also, if your student is being disruptive/distracting or not answering the questions, the teachers can log them out.

I am currently exploring “Go Guardian” software to keep our kids safe on line and allow everyone to view side chats and alternate websites while you student is logged on to the school website, during the school day.

Athletics are back! Are you ready for Track and Field?

Remember that I appreciate your support as we navigate through the remaining months of our school year. Thank you parents, you keep me going!!

GO RAVENS!

Dear Middle School Parents,

Mrs. Gutierrez has made the decision to move to California with her family and we, as a school community, wish them well as they begin the next chapter of their lives. I will truly miss that beautiful baby on future teacher Zoom meetings!!!

I have interviewed extensively again and have hired a Highly Qualified Teacher to teach Middle School Science. His name is Kevin Downey. Mr. Downey comes to us with a Master of Arts in Teaching from Montclair State University, Master of Business Administration from Fordham University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the United States Military Academy-West Point and served as a Captain in the US Army. Most importantly though was the wonderful childhood memories he had from attending a Catholic Grammar school.

Mr. Downey last taught science to sixth and seventh grade students in Elizabeth, NJ. There he was responsible for the construction, implementation, and continual revision of the curriculum. His students achieved a ninety percent grade on the New Jersey standardized test for science.

Mr. Downey will start officially on Monday, March 1, 2021.

Please welcome Mr. Downey to the SRLA family.

Best,
Principal Underwood

Dear Saint Rose Community,

It has truly been a pleasure to spend part of my teaching career here at Saint Rose.  I have experienced such a beautiful and warm family atmosphere, which is very unique to our school. While at Saint Rose, the students have made such a positive impact on who I am as an educator. While it may have been my job to teach Science, my students in turn have taught me so much more. All of their unique personalities have made Science classes exciting and meaningful. I wish all of you the best and great adventures ahead!

Love,
Mrs. Gutierrez
