What is a Trunk-or-Treat? It's when Academy families get together in

the church parking lot, park their cars, open up the trunks of their cars,

and children come around to each car to Trunk-or-Treat!!!

To really get into the spirit~ Academy parents can open their trunks to reveal

Halloween-themed decorations. Children can walk from trunk to trunk

to look at the decorations and receive treats such as Halloween

Stickers, Pencils, Erasers, Bags of Apple Slices, Pre-Wrapped goodies and the like!!! Please see the non-food Halloween treats flyer for suggestions!

Here are some fun Halloween activities you can do for the Trunk-or-Treat:

Trunk Decorating Contest: an optional activity for those who would like to decorate the trunk of their vehicle for the Trunk-or-Treat!

Any parent may participate: just let your class parent know in advance!

Costume Restrictions: The following Costume restrictions apply!!!

No clowns, masks, blood, guts, gore, weapons, or inappropriate dress/costume.

***Remember to wear your school uniform and change after lunch!!**

*Masks are required and all treats will be enjoyed at home.

Halloween Candy Collection

SRLA Supports Sisters at St. John’s Soup Kitchen

Collecting Candy November 1st – 3rd

SRLA Social Outreach will be collecting Halloween candy from SRLA families for the Sisters of St. John’s Soup Kitchen in Newark, NJ.

We ask students to please bring donated candy to school Monday, November 1st through Wednesday, November 3rd!

**Please secure (tie-up, tape) bags of candy and instruct your children not to eat the candy when bringing it to school. We want to make sure that our children with allergies are protected from peanut candies!! To protect the recipients, please send sealed candy only!

Thanksgiving Food Collection 2021

Please help feed a family in need this Thanksgiving holiday.

Each grade is asked to bring in a specific item for a family’s dinner plus $1.00 to help purchase turkeys to complete the dinner. Food can be brought to homeroom starting November 8th.  

All food must be in by Wednesday November 17th.

The Thanksgiving Dinners collected from St. Rose of Lima Academy will be added to the St. Rose of Lima Parish Thanksgiving Food Collection and will be delivered to the families on Saturday November 20th.

Since many recipients will be walking or relying on public transportation, the donation of reusable shopping bags will be appreciated.

St. Rose of Lima’s Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive

St. Rose of Lima’s Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive starts this weekend (See below)

Please help a family in need this Thanksgiving by providing their Thanksgiving dinner. 

Shop for the items listed in the attached flyer and bring to the St Rose of Lima Parking Lot on Saturday, November 20th between 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. Extra turkeys are welcome too.  Supplies may be limited in stores this year, so please give yourself enough time to shop and gather. We will also be collecting Shop Rite gift cards in any denomination.

Starting this weekend, shopping bags with the list of items in need will be at the entrances to the church and given out at all the outside Masses on Sunday.

COVID-19 Vaccination Reporting

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to let you know that as part of Executive Order 253, signed by Governor Murphy in late August, the NJ Department of Health issued an Executive Directive and Updated Guidance for Schools on COVID-19 requiring all schools in the State to report weekly on COVID-19 cases and vaccination rates for staff and students.  This information is submitted electronically to the NJ Department of Health, and does not include any identifying information regarding students or staff, only the total number.

As you are well aware, not all children are eligible for COVID-19 vaccination and the vaccine is not mandatory. If you have made the decision to vaccinate your eligible child, please send proof of vaccination to my attention. This will help us to be accurate in fulfilling the NJDOH reporting requirement and will assist us in our consultation with the local health department concerning quarantine decisions should the need arise in your child’s classroom. As always, please be assured that all medical information is treated confidentially and held securely.

Christmas Giving 2021

SRLA Christmas Gift Giving Program

Dear SRLA Families and Faculty,

A wonderful tradition at St. Rose of Lima Academy has been our Christmas Gift Giving Program that we have run for many years! Through this program we make sure that there is at least one present under the tree for the children of St. Rose of Lima Church in Newark and the seniors and families of St. Joseph’s Social Service Center in Elizabeth. Please consider if you can help these children, families and seniors during the Christmas holidays. There are three ways to participate in the program: 

(1) Buy gifts for children. 

~ If you would like to buy a gift, check off the appropriate box on the signup genius and indicate how many gifts you would like to buy. You will be provided with the name, age, and gender of a recipient in mid-November. Please wrap the gifts and bring them to school by Monday, December 6th. Gifts can be dropped off between November 29th through December 6th (Please budget $35 per gift). Drop off details will be provided.

(2) Send in a monetary donation.

~If you are unable to shop this year, our "Holiday Shopper Committee" can shop for you. Your donations will be used to buy toys, coats, scarves and mittens to name a few of the requests we often receive from the children!  Click “ HERE “ to make donations as soon as possible.

 

(3) Volunteer to be a "shopper." 

~If you would like to be a "volunteer shopper", please check off the appropriate box. This job entails shopping for 5 (or more) gifts with the donated money. You will be provided with a very specific wish list and you will be reimbursed.

Thank you in advance for your support for this worthy project! We encourage all families to involve their children in the shopping and wrapping of these gifts. This program is a wonderful way to teach children the importance of helping others!

Fall Food Truck Festival was a Rip Roaring Success!

 

The 2021 SRLA Fall Food Truck Festival was a rip roaring success!

Thank you to all our families and friends who joined us on a glorious October evening to eat delicious food and drink some tasty local brews. We had a RECORD attendance with many of our brand new families coming to our first event of the year.

Huge thanks to our Festival Co-Chairs, Mara Sirhal and Jennifer Coleman for coordinating everything so smoothly, as well as all the volunteers on the night.

Red Ribbon Week

Next week is Red Ribbon Week - the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country. Red Ribbon Week celebrations are an opportunity for communities, individuals and families to focus on keeping children safe through a commitment to drug abuse prevention and education and a commitment to live healthy, drug free lives and build safer healthier communities.

In celebration of Red Ribbon Week this year, the Millburn Municipal Alliance Committee is sponsoring an Art Contest for which the students have been working with Ms. Fowler during Art classes for their submissions. 

Deadline for submission has been extended to Wednesday, October 20th. 

Students are encouraged to WEAR RED on Monday, October 25th for a FREE DRESS DOWN DAY.

Photo Day has been moved to Thursday , October 21st. 

Unfortunately, the delay in winter uniforms coming from Flynn and O’Hara necessitates we change the winter uniform date to 11/29/21

So, what does this mean?

  • Students will wear their fall uniform for picture day
  • Students will continue to wear their fall uniforms until 11/29
  • Students may mix and match pieces from their winter uniform, should they have them.
  • The date of 11/29 should allow for everyone to receive their winter uniform.
  • If not, please stay tuned for future updates.
  • Most vendors have struggled with the shipping and in most cases the suppliers were affected as well.
